Description
Gilles Merlet created this blend with his sons Pierre and Luc, and it’s dedicated to the two brothers, who both work at the family distillery. The house calls it a new style for a new generation. All the eaux-de-vie are aged at least four years: four come from the Fins Bois cru and a fifth from Grande Champagne, the most prestigious cru in Cognac.
What makes it different: Most cognacs blend spirits of similar ages. Brothers Blend deliberately combines young and much older cognacs, with eaux-de-vie aged from four up to twelve years. The younger ones bring energy and power, and the older ones bring complexity and maturity. The result is a modern, fruit-forward cognac made for today’s cocktail bars, but still elegant enough to sip. It won a gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and Wine Enthusiast rated it 91 points.
Tasting notes: Golden in colour. The nose is elegant and lively, with candied apricot, quince, white flowers, cinnamon and vanilla. The palate brings delicate white fruit such as peach and apricot, with subtle wood. It’s supple and well balanced, with a long, pleasant finish.
How to serve: On ice, which brings out the fruit and new floral notes, or in cocktails such as a Sidecar or an Orchard & Vine. Its fresh, delicate character blends well with other ingredients without overpowering them.
